How did you first discover gourd art?
I had heard & read about gourds but never thought to do anything with them until a dear friend gave me a gourd she had grown with instructions on how to make a birdhouse.

When did you begin making your own gourd creations & why?
I began working with gourds in 2004.  My friend found out about a local gourd farm & we signed up for a class they were offering.  This class opened my eyes to all the creative things you could do with a gourd. After making a birdhouse from a gourd & then learning a wonderful technique called Lace Cuts, I was hooked. I finally had found a medium to work with that was going to keep me interested & creating for years.
What types of things do you make with gourds?  What influences or inspires your art?
Lace Cuts have become my 'specialty'.  I love the challenge.  I'm always trying to get the cuts as small & as close as possible.  The gourd itself inspires me.  When you look at a gourd, it tells you what to do with it.

Tell a little about yourself:
I was born in Thunder Bay, ON & I've had the great pleasure of moving across Canada several times before moving here to Kitchener.  I've also been lucky enough to visit many wonderful places in the US & Asia.  Asian art fascinates me & I'm patiently waiting for that perfect 'Ming' gourd.
